Vampires, devils, evil and darkness are the icons of Gothic culture. The satanic lifestyle has evolved into literature, poetry and for many a way of life. The term Gothic refers to the period immediately following the Romanesque period and preceding the Renaissance.
Early historians viewed the period with disdain, incorrectly categorizing all art of the Middle Ages as a product of the barbarian Goths. The Gothic age is now regarded as one of Europe's most important era in terms of art and especially architecture. It was through the service of the church, the most prolific builder of the Middle Ages, that Gothic architecture truly flourished. It remained the dominant expression of the Gothic period and survived all other Gothic arts well into the 16th century.
