ABOUT IRISH RELIGION SAINTS

As with many cultures around the world, one of the major factors that mold it to what it is now is religion. Here in this article will discuss Irish religion saints that are looked up by the people in Ireland.

St. Brendan
He was born in the County Kerry in Ireland around the time 484AD. At these times, Christianity was still dawdling and slowly spreading out all over the Islands of Ireland and due to this, Brendan was inspired to undergo and took religious teachings to help in the spread of Christianity in Ireland. He started undergoing religious teachings about 512AD and through time, helped established many monasteries in Ireland which helped in molding Irish religion and even monasteries in the United Kingdom.

There are quite many opinions as to what has happened in Brendan’s life. Some say that he has gone out on a 7-year journey in search of the “land of promise” however, there were documents to prove that he did these during those times. One person, Timothy Serevin, set out on an expedition to prove that Brendan did set out in this mission and has travelled across the ocean. These expeditions brought by Serevin have uncovered stone carvings in Wyoming, United States. These stone carvings contain Celtic script. However, it is difficult to tell that these were Brendan’s marks and carvings, evidently though, this may be true.

St Brigid of Kildare
She is quite an enormously celebrated saint in Ireland. In the Irish religion she was titled as the saint to be “Handsome, Strong and Brave” however, much of what we have learned about saint Brigid of Kildare came from myths rather than historical accounts. Continuing on, Brigid was born in 452CE and was a child of a very wealthy chieftain but his mother was a slave. In his childhood, his father is quite cruel considering that even Brigid’s mother was sold to a household of pagans.

Furthermore, Brigid was a slave of his father, but even to this, he gave away his father’s wealth and possession to the poor thus, earning her reputation of generosity.

Though there are still many saints in the Irish religion but, pretty sure, you have learned a thing or two about the two of many celebrated saints in Ireland.
