MEXICAN TRADITIONS IN TORTILLA MAKING

If you ever asked an archeologist about what is the most observable trait in a country’s tradition is that it is not about the old buildings, the songs and the dances of that culture but it is their food. If you ever visit Mexico you will notice that one of their famous food is the tortillas and I am pretty sure that you have heard of eat and lucky enough has eaten it. Furthermore, there are many restaurants that also offer tortillas in their menus. Well, in this article we are going to discuss about the Mexican traditions in tortilla making and make your own tortillas at the comfort of your own home.

There are basically two uses of tortillas in Mexican traditions. Tortillas for a taco, which is fried to a crisp and tortillas for a burrito, cooked soft. Still, whatever type the cooking, taco or burrito, it always tastes great.

If you ever want to make tacos or burritos I am pretty sure that you go for the market tortillas, which is, I can assure you, could lessen the taste of you are what you are making. Point is, if you plan to make burritos and tacos, it is best that you make your own fresh tortillas, without any preservatives and added chemical as compared to the ones you by in the supermarket, to make your tortilla snack the best.

The Mexican traditions of tortilla making are quite easy and I am sure that everybody can do it. The only ingredients needed are water andmasahariña which are then mixed together and left for a short while. Then it is rolled and pressed and then tossed into a griddle or if you do not have pan, just cook it in a non-stick pan. For those who do not masahariña is, this is a type of flour made basically from dried corn. For sure you can buy this any supermarket in your place.

In making the perfect tortilla first you need to have the perfect mix of water and this special flour. The best part in making your own tortilla Mexican traditions style is that you can manipulate the texture. However, take note that masahariña does not have the stickiness of dough when mixed with water. So, do not depend on the stickiness of the tortilla dough you are making for your desired texture.

As you can see making a tortilla is quite easy and the best part is it is fresh and, for sure, your burrito or taco will taste better compared to using the ready-made tortillas in the market.
